CRANSTON, R.I. -- Ocean State Action, a Cranston-based coalition of labor unions and social advocacy groups, has announced the hiring of Emilie Aries as its new lead organizer.
Aries, a Brown University graduate who led the Democratic National Committee's grassroots efforts in Rhode Island on behalf of the Obama campaign, said in a statement that she looks forward to working with "grassroots activists and coalition members to organize in support of Rhode Island's working families."
"I'm thrilled to join the exceptional team at Ocean State Action," she said. "Rhode Island faces tough economic times and yet remarkable opportunities for our state government to serve as an engine for growth and change."
Kate Brock, Ocean State Action's executive director, said in a statement that the group is "thrilled to partner with Emilie in the fight for social justice."
"Emilie's proven grassroots organizing skills and dedication to creating social change will be a tremendous asset to our coalition," she said. "We look forward to having her take the lead on the ground, working to mobilize Rhode Islanders for affordable health care, tax justice and civil rights for all."
