CRANSTON, R.I. -- Democrat Gina Raimondo, who is running for general treasurer, wants to help Rhode Islanders learn how to save money and set financial goals.
To that end, Raimondo is launching a Money School, and will host on Wednesday the first of what she hopes will be many seminars to promote financial literacy during her administration, if elected.
The premier session will focus on strategies for saving money, setting and meeting financial goals, understanding credit and debt and knowing where to access resources.
Raimondo, 38, grew up in Smithfield and co-founded Point Judith Capital in Providence, the state's only venture capital firm. She is running against Republican Kernan F. "Kerry" King, 66, of Narragansett, a retired tax attorney and former director of New England Mutual Life and Insurance.
The Money School will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kelly-Gazzero VFW Post, 1418 Plainfield St, Cranston. To register call (401) 921-5540. Additional information can be found at www.ginaraimondo.com.
