John Louglin hasn't officially announced his intent to challenge U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy for the 1st Congressional District. But all signs are pointing in that direction. Literally. Loughlin, a Republican state representative from Tiverton, gave us a small gift when we bumped into him outside the State House Wednesday morning. It was a campaign button: "John Loughlin for Congress 2010," it reads, over a red, white and blue background. Loughlin recently attended a three-day "candidate school" in Washington sponsored by the National Republican Congressional Committee. He has also established a campaign committee to begin fundraising (he raised nearly $50,000 last quarter), but has yet to officially announce. It's unclear when such an announcement might take place, but Loughlin noted he's in the midst of creating new buttons with a professionally-designed logo. |
