PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The state Senate on Tuesday approved a bill in which registered sex offenders who temporarily live in the state for at least 14 days would have to register at the police station in the community where they are residing.
Bill sponsor Sen. James Doyle, D-Pawtucket, simply told the chamber "it's a good bill" and urged passage. The vote was 33 to 0 and came without floor debate.
A registered sex offender would have to register with the local law enforcement within 24 hours of the 14th day in the state.
The bill requires House passage. The House may return into session later in the summer, as may the Senate. It's unclear the extent of legislative topics the chambers would take up later in the summer.
