The state Senate has delayed today's scheduled vote on a plan to change Rhode Island's public records law. Prompted by concerns raised by open records advocates last month, the bill's sponsor, J. Michael Lenihan, D-East Greenwich, is still working to build unanimity, according to Senate spokesman Greg Pare. "They're having ongoing discussions," he said when asked if the measure was dead. "I think they're just going to push it off... It's scheduled for next Thursday." Open records advocates last month described Lenihan's proposal as "a disaster for the public." The senator said he was simply trying to address concerns raised when Governor Carcieri vetoed a different version last summer. |
