Callan Maynard, 22, from the office of Providence Mayor David N. Cicilline, joins a group of interns Thursday at the Rhode Island Convention Center stuffing goodie bags to be handed out at the U.S. Conference of Mayors here this weekend. While a dispute rages over whether some top political figures will attend and city firefighters will picket, those who do show up with be supplied with state literature, water bottles, restaurant booklets, Mr. Potato Heads and a special gift from the mayor.
