PROVIDENCE, RI - So where does the AFL-CIO secretary-treasurer George Nee, the top organized labor lobbyist at the Rhode Island State House, go when he wants political advice?
The answer, as he will proudly tell you is: his 27-year-old daughter, Katie Nee.
In mid-March, Katie landed a new and challenging job as Southern Regional Political Director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the official campaign arm of the Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In that role, she is basically in charge of recruiting candidates and helping them line up staff and consultants and money to wage competitive races for 100-plus Congressional seats in Republican-friendly territory.
She worked her way up, having managed a 2006 Congressional race for Indiana Congressman Joe Donnelly (IN-02). In 2007, she won more stripes as State House Democratic Caucus Director in Louisiana, where she helped to keep Democrats in the majority. In 2008, she managed a special-election race in Louisiana's 6th Congressional district for Don Cazayoux. He won the special election in May 2008, and then lost the election in November.
