PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The state Senate approved Thursday afternoon a supplemental budget that aims to close a projected $357-million deficit in the state's $7.2 billion current-year spending plan.
The vote was 32 to 6.
No changes were made to the plan, which passed as approved Wednesday in the House.
The bill, H-5019 Sub A, will now head to the governor's office. The governor could sign it as approved, allow it to become law without his signature, or veto it within six days, sending it back to legislators.
Governor Carcieri has not indicated if he will veto the bill.
Among the key changes to the budget proposal that Governor Carcieri had originally submitted to the legislature is the reinstatement of $25 million of the $55 million in local revenue-sharing money for the cities and towns that were to be cut.
