PROVIDENCE, RI -- We briefly attended the party inside the State House's ornate State Room Thursday night where politicians joined parents and their children for a special celebration of Greek Independence Day. The host, of course, was state Sen. Leonidas P. Raptakis. He introduced several speakers. Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed was among them. The two haven't exactly seen eye-to-eye, most recently clashing when Raptakis put out a press release blasting Paiva Weed's decision to hire chief of staff Tom Coderre at more than $125,000 a year. Still, it was probably a simple mistake when Raptakis thanked the Senate president for her leadership, just before jumbling her name from the podium at the head of the packed room. It's a simple mistake. We've done it ourselves. But he called her "Teresa M. Paiva Weed." Her name is "M. Teresa Paiva Weed." The M, by the way, is for Marie. |
