R.I. Democratic Party Chairman William Lynch blasted Governor Carcieri this afternoon for his comments at Thursday night's state Republican convention.

As reported earlier this afternoon on projo.com's Politics blog, the governor had this to say about the Obama presidency:

"Right now, we've got an administration that's taking this country in a direction, God, that we've never seen. And it's going to bankrupt this nation. It's disgraceful what's going on," the governor said. "It's going to be proven a dismal failure, a dismal failure, so the opportunity is here for us, I believe, I really do."

Lynch wasted no time in firing back:

"Governor Carcieri is the ultimate hypocrite. He irresponsibly proposed using a significant portion of the stimulus money to plug holes in the state budget and then criticized the very plan he's relying on to bail him out. That is what's really disgraceful," Lynch said.

"This governor should spend more time working to rebuild the Rhode Island economy and less time spewing caustic rhetoric to a room full of right wing extremists and ideologues. In case he hasn't noticed, unemployment has risen to 10.5 percent under his watch and the only thing he's managed to grow in nearly seven years has been the $100,000-a-year club of sycophants that occupy his office."

Lynch continued:

"I've always said this governor was out of touch, I just didn't realize he drank the Rush Limbaugh Kool-Aid. Now, more than ever, this state needs real leadership and direction and it's clear that Governor Carcieri isn't interested in providing either."

After half a century of essentially veto-proof control of Rhode Island's legislature no Democrat is in any position "cry fowl" over any critical remarks. No piece of legislation or budget has been enacted in the past forty years that wasn't just fine with the Democrate leadership. Rhode Island's fiscal crisis, lack of a sustainable business tax base, and pension problems are all a direct result of choices made by its Democrat leadership. To deny any of this is the worst sort of lie. Spin this you self-important thieving hacks!

All we ever hear from the Right is about how bad things are, because of the left.

Why don't you get off your duffs... come up with a good idea, work to get it understood, and then have it pass.

The party of whining crybabies is the republican party. Until such a time as you start to offer viable solutions, instead of bashing everything in sight, you'll remain irrelevant.

If you're all such a powerful voice, why can't you mobilize?

I do not understand why the situation Rhode Island is in needs to be handed onto a single political party. Disagreeing with Carcieri does not mean that you agree with the democrats. That is a strange polarized way of looking at things. Our only answer to the aristocratic state senate is a reactionary and out of touch rich governor? That is awful, both sides are useless.

It is hopeless! Abandon ship!

This idiot from the get go has been bad. As a "Business Man" there were ethics complaints, then he was elected. Then there were ethics complaints. Then there is the buddies in his $100,000.+ club. Then he has the nerve to bit-h about the monies from the federal government, but he has his hand out. For the taxpayer nothing but lots of hot air. Where are the jobs, where are the "savings"? At least the Dem's are trying to do something. This bozo is just looking to make him and his friends money. Maybe he should start taxing boats as a sin tax like cigarettes are taxed. If he is so up on RI and helping he should just resign. Sorry he hasn't bled the state dry yet.
