| R.I. Senate passes bill on U.S. Senate vacancies »
Shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, the House Finance Committee posted notice of its intent to act Friday at 1 p.m. on the budget-repair bill known as H5019. In its original form, the proposal included substantial cuts in state aid to the cities and towns, a $1 hike in the state's $2.46 per pack cigarette tax and a rollback in pension benefits for state workers and teachers who retire after some as yet to be determined date. Details of what will be presented to the committee for a vote by the Democrat-controlled House leadership have not yet been made public, and may not be in advance of Friday, when the bill has been posted for "consideration,'' not a "public hearing.''

This 1.00 hike on cigarettes will close the doors of many Mom and Pop convenience stores and put more ptople in the un-employment line, and send Rhode Islanders into Ma. and Conn to spend their money. Other states must think that this state is run by a bunch of MORONS.
