House panel to hear Medicaid waiver oversight bill

The House Finance Committee has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday on a bill to oversee the Carcieri administration's Medicaid plan.

The bill, 5112, would require legislative approval for "any change that requires the
implementation of a rule or regulation or modification of a rule or regulation in existence prior to" the new system.

Lawmakers were worried that the governor sought unprecedented authority to re-shape Medicaid programs that touch 180,000 Rhode Islanders, but had yet to detail most of the specifics.

The Senate has introduced a similar bill that will be heard before its finance committee Wednesday at 3 p.m.
