The House Finance Committee will meet Tuesday, Jan. 13 to review Governor Carcieri's mid-year budget repair plan, unveiled yesterday. House spokesman Larry Berman confirmed this afternoon that the committee will begin working through the proposal sometime Tuesday afternoon, though the exact time has not yet been posted. It will be a briefing by fiscal staff. Legislative leaders, including Finance Chairman Steven M. Costantino, have thus far said little about Carcieri's proposal, saying they want to let the hearing process play out before offering opinions. "The supplemental budget proposal contains very large and very major changes to government that will require major scrutiny by the House of Representatives," House Speaker William J. Murphy said in a statement. "We need to be sure there are no unintended consequences and that the Governor's recommendations are in fact achievable." |
