PROVIDENCE -- The 23 newly elected members to the Rhode Island General Assembly -- 16 in the House of Representatives and seven in the Senate -- will participate in an all-day orientation session today in the House Chamber at the State House.

The Biennial Legislative Orientation Seminar will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 3 p.m.

Speaker of the House William J. Murphy and the incoming President and current Majority Leader of the Senate, M. Teresa Paiva-Weed are expected to speak to the new legislators. Also expected to speak are House Majority Leader Gordon D. Fox, incoming Senate Majority Leader Daniel P. Connors, House Minority Leader Robert A. Watson and Senate Minority Leader Dennis L. Algiere.

The seminar will include presentations by the directors of various legislative offices, including the Joint Committee on Legislative Services, Legislative Council and House and Senate fiscal offices. A representative of the Rhode Island Ethics Commission will also speak to the legislators-elect.

The legislators will be sworn into office on the first day of the 2009 General Assembly session, Jan. 6. Lawmakers will confront a deep economic recession and a budget deficit of nearly $360 million for the year ending in June. It's one of the worst budget gaps in the country

Per Projo - PROVIDENCE -- The 23 newly elected members to the Rhode Island General Assembly -- 16 in the House of Representatives and seven in the Senate -- will participate in an all-day orientation session today in the House Chamber at the State House.

Well first of all I send the new members of The Rhode Island General Assembly best Wishes in their chosen challenge to participate in and contribute to the reform of the Government for The State of Rhode Island.

I encourage you to team with the peoples elected Governor Don Carcieri towards continuing his reform process such that RI can once again compete in the National and Global Economy.

I offer you some advise. Yes, the frustrated advise of a Rhode Island citizen that wishes our state to once again offer opportunity to its citizens. The close to 70 year path of pseudo Socialist liberal left largeness that has resulted in a union utopia and dependent client provider mentality can no longer work. Just three words will explain why. That is such depends on "Other Peoples Money". The other people have and or are in the process of much more rapidly departing the Ocean State. The reaming citizens must now pay the bills where a lack of overall affordability for the present structure is now very clear.

The remedy for this situation is as well very clear and has been discussed for years. The present Governor has been attempting to implement this solution for 6 years with piecewise and slow progress. I suggest that you all get on board Governor Don Carcieri State of RI Reform train.
Contribute to the process with debate and discussion leading to a solution. No longer is it acceptable to stonewall and support the present condition of RI Government.
Respectively,
William F Horan
Middletown, RI 02842
