U.S. Rep. James Langevin carved out time to tape a joint appearance with Mark Zaccaria, his Republican challenger in the Second Congressional District, on WJAR-Channel 10's Sunday morning Political Roundtable. It aired last weekend.

But Rhode Island's First District Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy and U.S. Sen. Jack Reed have not agreed to requests by Channel 10 for televised debates. There has been no response over two days from the Kennedy or Reed staffs to questions about why they have not agreed to the TV appearances.

Channel 10 news executive producer Suzanne Nadeau-Beever said she has tried since September 23 to set up half-hour segments dedicated to each race, using a question-and-answer format moderated by reporters Jim Taricani and Bill Rappleye. Nadeau-Beever said she offered Kennedy "several dates'' and his staff at one point suggested this week might be workable, but then said, "sorry, we are booked.'' Yesterday, she reported that Reed's campaign has also "now declined our invitation for a joint candidate appearance on our Political Roundtable program. We will go ahead and tape a segment with Bob Tingle.''

The two back-to-back half-hour shows will air starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, but without the incumbents who have raised and spent millions seeking to win reelection.

One will feature Kennedy's Republican challenger Jonathan Scott and independent Kenneth Capalbo, both running against him a second time. The other will feature Reed's Republican challenger Bob Tingle.

Of course they won't debate. Patrick is brain dead. Anyone else notice how his speech has changed? How long are we going to put up with it? Oh, wait! As soon as his Dad goes, he's moving back to Mass and run for the senate seat. Then he'll be Massachusett's problem
Jack Reed????? He's a coward. Afraid to face up to his responsibility in the economic melttown. Payback the millions he took from the financial sector and then I might see him as I did before. Vote for no incumbent this election. Lets try to wipe them all out and start all over!
They are all corrupt!

This Projo article; Kennedy, Reed decline TV forum with their challengers is just yet another reason why we need to seriously consider recycling these POLs from RI.

Clearly the incumbents seem to think that they are above a performance evaluation by the people that sent them down to Washington, DC. Moreover their unwillingness to meet their opponents in front of the RI voters for a fair and equal evaluation is an insult to all citizens of The State of RI. Finally should we interpret such behaviors as a veiled attempt to, disrupt if not undermine, the peoples election process? We respectfully suggest that the candidates reconsider their negative decisions and plan on attending the scheduled TV candidate exchange. Yes, we are very interested in learning exactly what has gone on down in DC and what your plans would be towards much more aggressive representation of both RI and the countries interests, if we decide to return you to the next congress.

Yes, The Thirteenth State - Rhode Island citizens can & must send a message that it is taking responsibility for & doing its part to correcting both its present economic situation at home and in Washington, DC. Again, while doing our part to get the ball rolling in cleaning up the peoples Congresses at Washington, DC and bringing accountability home to those in the congress. Yes, those elected officials that all together appear to have failed to warn us of the pending finical calamity either as a state or nation. Oh, if hopefully you all change your mind and decide to attend please leave the finger pointing and tall patrician tails at home. The buck does stop with each one of you.

Jack Reed and Patrick Kennedy and James Langevin have represented RI in Washington, DC for some time. These elected positions were never intended to be a job for life. Nor successes in Washington DC can not be measured by the potential for plunder and bounty that might have been accumulated into ones reelection campaign fun. Perhaps from PACs and lobbyists etc!

Accordingly, given the lack of information to the contrary - We must seriously consider recycling ALL of our elected officials. Yes especially at but not limited to the Federal level in the US House and Senate in Washington, DC.
That is please do not forget the poor performance of the RI General Assembly as well.

After all we must remember that both parties have told us over and over again that change is good for us with out clearly defining their definition of exactly what change means. Well I venture that we the voter’s of RI as well have the power to make some change as well!

Yes, the US senator and representatives have brought home some pork and perhaps even served a few local Corporation PACs and lobbyist along the way. However they ALL individually and collectively seem to have failed to successfully serve the people that they collectively represent.

Yes, we understand that something is wrong in both houses of the people’s congress down in Washington, DC.

We acknowledge that Our Rhode Island members of the two Houses of Congress in Washington, DC bring a little pork back home (especially at election time) and visit us for photo opportunities at various public events / parades and the VA Home or Retirement communities, community centers et al. Oh, yes our senators and reps have Web Sites to stay in touch with us. However this alone is not enough.

We have not, prior to the latest collection of finical calamities, seen any of these elected officials, in the American tradition become proactive , cry out or shout from the roof tops that we have a real clear and present danger. No it has been business as usual while our security and treasure has been plundered from with-in our own country! Yes, while the various laws enacted to protect our people have not been enforced by either regulators / agencies of and or in congress or the courts.

We must hold the existing members of congress accountable for these failures. We have a duty to send a message that business as usual is no longer an acceptable outcome. We must set higher expectations and demand better results / performance from the people that we elect and send down to Washington, DC..

We have the tools and power to start the reform of our government in November 2008!
Yes, fellow citizens "CHANGE" please go vote and carefully consider if you need to recycle your members of the either (at home the RI General Assembly) and down in Washington RIs’ US Congress members.

Yes, RI send your message that you are demanding reform and much more accountability in ALL deliberations of congress and companion rigorous enforcement of the laws enacted to protect the people and maintain an orderly and predictable operation of government. On Election Day I think that our message will be recorded and hopefully even understood!

Together we have the power and authority to recycle our elected officials. Yes, we can rebuild and overcome the apparent failures of our elected officials in DC.
God Bless America.
