A hearing has been scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday on the ACLU's lawsuit accusing the town of West Warwick of discriminatory enforcement of an ordinance that limits the size of campaign signs.

The Rhode Island Affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union will ask a judge in U.S. District Court, Providence, to issue a restraining order.

The ACLU said it filed the suit on behalf of Thomas K. Jones of West Warwick, who last month lost the District 27 House Republican primary to Ericka J. Atwell. The suit contends the ordinance violates Jones' freedom of speech protections and that town officials have applied it against him in a discriminatory way.

The Journal reported the disagreement concerns a number of 4-by-8-foot signs Jones put up that bore a message opposing the $150-million water park and resort planned for the West Warwick Business Park. Jones said he removed a number of signs from yards of supporters who said they received letters threatening them with fines for violating the sign ordinance.

Jones argued the letters resulted from the signs' content, not size. But town officials have denied that.

The letters said the ordinance allows for no more than one political sign being posted on a residential lot and that it can measure no larger than 8 square feet. A violation can lead to a $500 fine.

The ACLU stands for "Anti Christian Legal Union". They want to establish a secular progressive state in our country, where there would be no room for God. With no God, there would be no moral boundariess, no rules, no right or wrong, no parental rights within a traditional family. In short, an "anything goes" mentality that had it's origin in the 60"s. If it feels good, do it.

This group is an anti-American hate group. They hate our country and will do everything possible to tear it down. They are well funded by left wing radicals and they are dangerous. Any time you see them supporting a particular cause, you can pretty much figure out what their true motives are.

Doesn't ACLU stand for American Civil Liberties Union? If I'm not mistaken, it's a group that preserves First Amendment rights, equal protection rights, due process under the law, and our right to privacy.

To the U.S. Soldier-

Either you are very naive, or just ignorant of what's going on in our country. Or, possibly, you are a member in good standing in the radical left wing anti American organization known as the ACLU.

Most citizens who are informed, know where the ACLU directs its efforts. And it isn't to protect anyone's rights. It exists to destroy our country. Wake up!

Thank God for the ACLU said:

It's too bad that we never see any religious groups, Christian or otherwise, defending our secular rights.

Will the day never come when we hear the words, "Today's second collection will be taken up in support of legal assistance for groups that have experienced illegal discrimination."
