PROVIDENCE -- Cheryl Russell sat alone in a folding chair on the State House's front steps this afternoon, bundled up in a parka and fleece blanket. Despite a stiff late-October breeze, she said she wasn't cold. "I really don't feel cold. I say the glory of the Lord is on me," she said with a comfortable smile, noting the Bible in her lap. Russell is the state coordinator and founder of the group Pray Rhode Island, which launched its first-ever "Bible Reading Marathon" this morning. The non-denominational and non-partisan event will feature at least one person reading the Bible on the State House stairs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day until Election Day. "Regardless of who steps into that office (the presidency), he is going to need wisdom," she said, referring to the global economic crisis, among other major problems. "There is so much anxiety and fear; it just eats away at them." "These problems are bigger than we humans can fix," she said. CommentsLeave a comment |
