The Providence chief of police will be in Washington tomorrow to testify before a Senate hearing on how to fight violent crime. Col. Dean Esserman will be among the witnesses -- also to include community leaders and experts on crime -- appearing at the Senate Judiciary Committee. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a member of the committee who has served as Rhode Island attorney general and as a U.S. attorney, announced Esserman's appearance in a news release. The release said Esserman will testify about the successful community policing effort in Providence. |
