Rhode Island top Republican has joined the state's delegation to the party's convention in St. Paul.

Governor Carcieri and his wife, Sue, arrived in this afternoon at the Twin Cities airport. If all goes according to schedule, they may catch Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's much-anticipated appearance at a gathering of abortion opponents in a hotel near the Xcel Energy Center.

The Carcieris are expected to be on hand tonight as the GOP resumes its regularly scheduled programming -- a convention kicking into full gear a day late, after the hiatus caused by Hurricane Gustav.

Carcieri will spend the rest of the week at the Republican National Convention, although his daily schedule has yet to be finalized, according to his office.

Carcieri spokeswoman Amy Kempe said that the governor's policy director, Timothy Costa, is also planning to attend the convention, although Costa isn't traveling with the governor. Kempe wasn't aware of any other Carcieri staffers who will be in Minnesota this week.

Carcieri is scheduled to appear tomorrow afternoon on the Fox News show, "Your World with Neil Cavuto." Kempe said that more national television appearances are expected, but she had nothing official to announce today.

"McCain's camp has asked us if he'd consider" more nationally televised appearances as a surrogate, according to Kempe. "Of course he would agree."

Additionally, Carcieri is scheduled to hit the local talk radio circuit hard in the coming days from Minnesota.

He plans to call in to WHJJ host Helen Glover's show at 8:05 Wednesday morning. And he's planning to stop by Buddy Cianci's show, which Kempe noted is set up in Minnesota this week, in the afternoon.

On Thursday, Carcieri will likely talk to Glover again, as well as WPRO's John DePetro.

The governor plans to attend John McCain's keynote address Thursday, according to Kempe.

Hi hope the governor is traveling on his own expenses and not on R.I. taxpayer’s expenses. It would be ridicules after so many cuts if he decides to go to GOP on RI tax money.

Can we get his return ticket to RI voided? In the long run, it would save the State a whole bunch of money. He would like Minn. since it has a Republican governor and wouldn't have to beat up working people to take care of his cronies. I'm sure Council 94 would sent him a care package of Coffee surup, some Del's mix, and a NY System to make him feel the love.
