Rhode Island DNC delegate Myrth York, an ardent supporter of Hillary Clinton's presidential candidacy, has become reconciled to the New York senator's loss. But that doesn't mean the former gubernatorial candidate has softened her belief that women still face prejudice when they run for elective office.

Just consider the double standard in "the use of language and the descriptions that are applied to men and women,'' York suggested in an interview today.

Commentators and politicos suggest often, for example, that the Democratic presidential candidate should be "more aggressive, be tough,'' York said. "Those words mean one thing when applied to Barack Obama. They mean something much different when applied to Hillary Clinton,'' she said.

Nevertheless, York predicted that this convention will conclude "not just with a picture of unity'' from the convention stage at the Pepsi Center "but with a real feeling of unity.'' She said she remains "saddened, a little bit,'' by the outcome of Clinton's campaign for president. "But on the issues, on the values which I really do care about'' the two candidates "are so close.''

York concluded: "I'm very happy with Barack Obama.''

Clinton is on tap as the convention's prime-time speaker tonight. More on the convention schedule here.

Myrth York is one of the smartest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! She's right on about the prejudice that women face, especially in politics. The people of Rhode Island can only wish that we'd been lucky enough to have her as our Governor these past years. There's no doubt in my mind that Rhode Island would be much better off than we are now!

You guys are pathetic! To get the pulse of Democrats in Rhode Island you talk to a woman who endorsed a Republican for U.S. Senate. Brilliant.
