| Update: Obama camp hires Rep. Sullivan as RI director »
Saturday is the voter-registration deadline for Rhode Island's primary election on Sept. 9. Each city and town has made accommodations to allow residents to register on Saturday, the deadline, according to Secretary of State Ralph Mollis's office. Locations in every city and town that will be open Saturday for registering are available online. Completed voter registration forms that have not been turned in to local boards of canvassers by the deadline must be postmarked by Aug. 9 in order to make the deadline. On the September primary ballot, U.S. Sen. Jack Reed will face Democratic challenger Christopher Young. There are also contests for state representative, state senate, city council, and school committee in many communities. To register, a person be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, a Rhode Island resident and have a valid Social Security number or Rhode Island driver's license. Registering to vote is free. -- Mike McKinney, projo.com |
