U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, fresh from a trip to Iraq and Afghanistan with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, will meet today at 5 p.m. with Rhode Island Young Democrats at the Ri Ra Irish Pub at 50 Exchange Terrace in Providence.

Reed will talk with people interested in politics between 5 and 7 p.m. at the pub, a popular gathering place for young politicos. The event is free.

Reed, of Jamestown, is seeking a third term. He faces a challenge in the Democratic primary Sept. 9 from Christopher F. Young, of Providence. Republican Bob Tingle of Westerly is also seeking the Senate seat.
