The speculation is loud that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama could announce his choice of a running mate today.

The campaign has said it will announce the choice via cell phone text message to supporters.

The list of possibles, according to an Associated Press report, is believed to be down to Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, who planned to campaign in his home state Thursday with Obama.

Absent from that short list at this time is Rhode Island's Sen. Jack Reed. Reed has said he is not interested in being a candidate for vice president and prefers staying in the Senate. Yesterday, it was announced that the West Point graduate and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee will speak on national security at the upcoming Democratic national convention in Denver.
