Governor Carcieri has ordered Rhode Island state flags lowered to half-staff in honor of Rhode Island native Sgt. Michael Ferschke Jr., a 22-year-old Marinewho was killed Fallujah, Iraq on Sunday during a house-to-house search. Flags will remain at half staff until Monday morning, Aug. 18. "Today we remember the service of a young man, born in Woonsocket, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of his country," Carcieri said in a statement. "Our condolences go out to his family and friends. Ferschke, who was born in Woonsocket, was a Marine with the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion at the time of his death.
