Rhode Island has been represented outside the Pepsi Center this week as well as inside the Democratic convention hall.

The Ms. Foundation for Women is among the many groups that have noted the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with events to help New Orleans and other hard-hit Gulf Coast areas to recover.

Mary Kay Harris of Direct Action for Rights and Equality, Providence Chapter, worked with the foundation on an event meant to show that the challenges facing women and families in the Gulf Coast are reflected elsewhere.

Harris used Providence as a case study during a presentation about gentrification and other issues.
