WASHINGTON – Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy plans tonight to introduce a documentary film about a politician whose performance in a memorable campaign made it clear, in the congressman’s words, that he was not "not just reading off a set of talking points – he's listening to voters, responding to their concerns, and sharing his own concerns with them.’’
The campaign was for the presidency 40 years ago. The politician, Robert F. Kennedy, was his uncle. The documentary, "Robert F. Kennedy Remembered,’’ by Charles Guggenheim, will be screened – along with some TV ads from the campaign – at the Newseum, the newly opened museum of news, on Pennesylvania Avenue between the Capitol and the White House.
"It's always a humbling experience to be asked to attend or speak at an event devoted to my uncle Robert Kennedy,’’ Kennedy said in his prepared remarks, "It is especially daunting to speak at an event centered on his 1968 presidential campaign. There is no more revered campaign in all of Democratic politics than that incredible race.’’
