John "J.R." Pagliarini, the governor's former deputy chief of staff, made an appearance at the State House today in his new role.

He is now a lobbyist for higher education. He wears the green name tag on his gray blazer that all lobbyists must display.

He said he is adjusting well to his new position, but "I miss the action."

State House hallways are bustling today -- mostly with lobbyists -- and no wonder: It is the day before the House of Representatives is slated to vote on the fiscal 2009 budget.

Everyone is trying to get information on what may end up in the final budget.

Steven M. Costantino, the House Finance Committee chairman, held a budget briefing for about a half-hour, and about 20 representatives attended.

Friday is expected to be the General Assembly's final day.
