Senator Reed was among those honored last week for his interest and efforts in the peace process in Ireland. The Rhode Island Democrat joined Representatives Edward Markey, D-Mass., and Christopher Smith, R-N.J., in collecting laurels at the 16th-annual dinner of the American Ireland Fund in Washington.
The fund supports programs of peace and reconciliation, arts and culture, education and community development throughout Ireland.
Meanwhile, Langevin has been honored with the Humane Advocate Award for his leadership on animal protection legislation in 2007. The honor was given by the Humane Society of the United States and the Humane Society Legislative Fund. Langevin was one of 132 federal lawmakers recognized for leading efforts in Congress to protect animals. He is one of 52 members of Congress recognized as a “Humane Advocate,” denoting a perfect score on the group’s report card on key votes.
