Democratic Sen. Jack Reed is up for a third term this year, and it is no surprise that national and local political experts consider him a lock for reelection. He has no announced Republican opposition yet. And he usually has the highest job approval numbers of any federal or statewide Rhode Island elected official. Also, according to his latest finance report to the Federal Election Commission, Reed continues has accumulated a bulging campaign war chest that may scare off prospective challengers. Rhode Island’s senior senator is sitting on roughly $3.2 million, according to the report filed on last Thursday’s deadline with the FEC by Reed’s campaign. jjordan@projo.com |
