Nellie M. Gorbea, once deputy secretary of state under Matt Brown, has been appointed executive director of HousingWorksRI, the coalition of foundations, banks, colleges and community groups seeking a solution to the state’s lack of affordable housing.
Gorbea, of North Kingstown, has had a long career in the public and private sectors. She has served as an economic adviser to the governor of Puerto Rico, as the Rhode Island Foundation’s program officer for economic and community development, and as president of the Rhode Island Latino Political Action Committee. She is a graduate of Princeton University and holds a master’s degree in public administration from Columbia University.
Gorbea started late last month at HousingWorksRI, succeeding acting director Ari Matusiak.
