Cumberland Mayor Daniel McKee, a Democrat, has endorsed Barack Obama for president, the Obama campaign announced today.

“Here in Rhode Island, we know this election isn’t about returning to the past, it’s about moving our country towards the future,” McKee said in the Obama campaign's statement. “When Barack Obama is president, he will restore our common sense of purpose and continue to encourage the American people to get involved in our democracy.”

The campaign said McKee cited Obama’s "unique ability to inspire Americans to be involved in our country’s political process."
