The House Corporations Committee today is slated to hold a hearing today on bills that would prohibit people from sending text messages while driving. One bill is sponsored by Rep. Joanne M. Giannini, D-Providence, and the other bill is sponsored by Rep. Joseph McNamara, D-Warwick. A survey last year by AAA and Seventeen magazine found that 46 percent of drivers 16- and 17 years old said they text-message while driving, according to a New York Times article. Several states already have a ban on such messaging. -- projo.com staff writer Michael McKinney CommentsLeave a comment |
