PROVIDENCE -- Former Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci Jr. is adding another new job title to his resume: Chief political analyst and contributing editor for WLNE-TV.

The station says the once-imprisoned former mayor will start his new job on Nov. 1. General Manager Stephen Doerr calls Cianci "legendary'' and says no one knows the region better.

Cianci served more than four years in federal prison after being convicted on corruption charges. He was released earlier this year and started hosting a talk show on WPRO-AM last month.

WLNE, the local ABC affiliate on Channel 6, recently changed ownership and has been making management changes in a bid to improve its lagging ratings.

Re: Buddy TV

It's about time someone put a little life into the lackluster TV news in this town.

I think the Mayor is an excellent choice. I firmly believe he has paid for any wrong he has done, except for the Ray Deleo incident. In that case, I think the Mayor acted childish and only because he was still in love. I think Mr. Deleo was a an innocent subject in that episode and it wouldn't hurt the Mayor to be a man and acknowledge his mistake in an Honorable Fashion and personally apologize to Mr. Deleo.
I say that only because one of mans biggest falls in life is normally created by a seduceful partner; it takes two to Tango. Remember, it wasn't the Apple that fell from the tree that created the problem; it was the pear(pair) on the ground.

Good for him. Buddy is a blast and is Mr. Providence. It'll be fun to see him on TV and hear his thoughts on RI politics, a subject he knows as well as anyone.

You may recall that Buddy was on Ch. 6 before he went to the big house and it didn't do anything for the ratings.
