The governor’s office will be without a familiar face today.
Carcieri’s director of public information, Michael Maynard, has left state government and his $89,350 salary. He has moved to the private sector.
Today he will move into a new office in Textron’s Providence headquarters, where he will assume the responsibilities of senior writer for the business giant. His last day in the State House was Friday, about 2½ years after he started.
“I’ve got four mouths to feed. No downtime,” Maynard, 41, told Political Scene on his last day.
Maynard, a father of four young children, including eight-month-old twin boys, said he’d miss his time working for Carcieri.
But, “It was an opportunity to work for a company like Textron, I couldn’t pass it up.”
Maynard’s unassuming charm will be missed by State House staffers.
A Political Scene reporter saw the governor’s director of director communications, Steve Kass, drop off a parting gift Friday morning — a bottle of wine. And a group of staffers took Maynard out for drinks Friday night to say goodbye.
