Darlene Leyden Walsh is the new finance director for the state judiciary. She replaces Robert A. Sieczkiewicz, who retired Dec. 22.

Walsh, 41, of North Kingstown, will oversee the judiciary’s financial and budgetary operations, making $100,602 a year, with longevity pay included, according to courts spokesman Craig N. Berke.

Before starting the new job in April, Walsh was an assistant administrator at the state Division of Motor Vehicles, where she was in charge of the customer service section. In that job, she agreed to answer questions of general interest posed by Journal readers about state motor vehicle laws and procedures.

From 1992 to 2005, Walsh worked in the attorney general’s office: in 2003-05 as director of administration and finance, in 1999-2003 as director of personnel, and in 1992-99 as fiscal officer. She graduated from Bryant College with an accounting degree.

Walsh is the daughter of retired state police Capt. John T. Leyden Jr.

Sieczkiewicz retired at age 65 after 22 years in state government, including about 6 years working for the judiciary.
