Candidates flock to R.I.
Ah, the joys of the permanent campaign. Just about every candidate looking for publicity and/or money has lighted on Rhode Island this year. Among those stopping in over the next week or so: John Edwards, who is speaking at Portsmouth’s Carnegie Abbey Club as part of the club’s Meet the Candidates forums. Edwards will speak tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the club.
Rudy Giuliani seems to be in Rhode Island these days as often as the Clintons. Giuliani will speak at a fundraiser at Pot au Feu, in Providence, at noon Thursday and is headed back to the state to vacuum up more campaign cash on June 6 with a luncheon at a Pinelli Marra restaurant, in Providence. Bill Clinton will appear June 6 at noon at a fundraiser for his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, at the East Side home of former Providence Mayor Joseph R. Paolino Jr.
Republican U.S. Rep. Bobby Jindal, a 1992 Brown University graduate, is running for governor of Louisiana. Jindal’s friends at the Brown Rudnick Berlack Israels law firm in Providence are hosting a fundraiser for Jindal on Thursday.
