| An opponent for Reed in ’08? State GOP chairman says ‘we’re working on it’ »
Governor Carcieri has been putting his money where his presidential endorsement has gone. Carcieri and his wife, state First Lady Suzanne Carcieri, have each contributed $2,100 to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign. They may have been returning the favor. Romney and his wife, Ann Romney, each gave Carcieri $1,000, last year, the legal maximum. Carcieri openly endorsed Romney for president last month in a statement released by the Romney campaign. “In his four years as chief executive, he erased a deficit and provided health care without raising taxes,” Carcieri said in the statement. “Our country faces a new generation of challenges that requires a leader to call upon the strength of the American people." Other Rhode Island Romney contributors include lawyer Stephen Carlotti of Barrington, a Hinckley Allen partner and charter member of Carcieri’s inner circle; Rep. Joseph Trillo, of Warwick, and Kernan “Kerry” King, of Saunderstown, who ran unsuccessfully for the GOP lieutenant governor nomination. |
