Former New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani is coming to town this week to raise money for his possible presidential run. The Republican will have a $1,000-a-head cocktail party at 6 p.m. Saturday at The Westin Hotel in downtown Providence.
(For $2,100, big donors can attend a 30-minute VIP reception.) Business attire is required.
The event is being sponsored by Malcolm McGuire, Giuliani’s Rhode Island finance chairman, who was a supporter and fundraiser for former Cranston Mayor Stephen P. Laffey’s failed U.S. Senate bid. McGuire is president of CCRI Financial Group, a Rhode Island financial consulting firm.
Giuliani became New York’s mayor in 1993 and served for eight years. He was in charge of the city during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and rose to national prominence after the attacks; he was named Time magazine’s person of the year. During the 1980s, he was U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and was known for his efforts against organized crime.
