Actor Michael J. Fox joined U.S. Rep. James Langevin as his guest to the president's State of the Union address last night. Fox, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, has become an outspoken proponent for stem cell research. The Rhode ISland Democrat, paralyzed by a shooting accident, supports lifting Bush's ban on most federally financed research into potential medical treatments derived from stem cells in human embryos. The House passed just such a measure earlier in the month, though it has yet to pass the Senate. In 2005, Langevin's guest was the late Dana Reeve, the wife of the late Christopher Reeve, the actor who played Superman and was paralyzed after a fall from a horse.
