PROVIDENCE -- Political news junkies, the week ahead may be yours. Coming up: The sentencing of a former state senator for corruption, the arraignments of two CVS executives in a related case, and the release of grand jury testimony from The Station nightclub fire case. Plus, in a single 19-hour span, Governor Carcieri will give arguably his most important speech and release the state's most important document of the year. Tuesday at 7 p.m., Carcieri is scheduled to deliver his annual State of the State address before a joint session of the General Assembly in the House chamber. And at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the governor will unveil his 2008 budget. There's no word on what the governor's tax-and-spending proposal may contain, but it's sure to be interesting. In his budget, Cacieri somehow has to close a $105.1-million shortfall that the state faces this year and a potential $254-million deficit next year. -- projo.com staff writer Steve Peoples |
