The son of the late U.S. Sen. John O. Pastore weighed in on Rhode Island's recent election in a letter that appeared in the New York Times on Sunday. "In the 30 years since my father left the United States Senate, his Rhode Island seat has been held only by John Chafee and then his son Lincoln D. Chafee," wrote John O. Pastore Jr., who now lives in Winchester, Mass. "His thoughtful and self-effacing tenacity in the face of scorn from his own party’s leaders has brought new honor not only to his father’s legacy in the Senate but also to all Rhode Islanders, regardless of party." Pastore's father served in the U.S. Senate for 26 years. Chafee wrote an op-ed column that appeared in The Times the previous Sunday. |
