It’s still six weeks until the General Assembly reconvenes, but there’s been one seating request already. Freshman Representatives Jon Brien and Lisa Baldelli-Hunt have asked to be seated next to each other in the coming session. The newcomers have more in common than the fact that they are both Woonsocket Democrats. They requested adjacent seats because of family history. Baldelli-Hunt’s uncle, Charles C. Baldelli, served in the House with Brien’s father, Albert G. Brien. After Baldelli became mayor of Woonsocket in 1985, Albert Brien left the Assembly to serve as his finance director. Although the seating chart won’t be made official until the new session starts, in January, House Speaker William J. Murphy said he would keep the request in mind. “I have a great deal of respect for the long service of former Representatives Al Brien and Charlie Baldelli,” Murphy said through spokesman Larry Berman.
