There's no shortage of last-second press conferences today as candidates scramble for media coverage with the election now less than two weeks away.

U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee held a press conference late this morning to continue his attacks against his Democratic opponent for not pursuing criminal charges in the Roger Williams Medical Center corruption case.

Chafee says Sheldon Whitehouse, when he served as attorney general six years ago, ignored reports of wrongdoing.

Whitehouse's campaign called The Journal just before noon to announce a 12:30 p.m. press conference at 422 Post Road in Warwick. While the event will be held at the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the campaign didn't say what its focus would be. A call to campaign spokeswoman Alex Swartsel wasn't immediately returned.

Meanwhile, gubernatorial candidate Charles Fogarty's campaign sent out an e-mail at 11:55 a.m. announcing a 3 p.m. press conference "to denounce an advertisement by the Republican Governors Association. The ad launches more false negative attacks against Charlie Fogarty," according to Fogarty's e-mail.

The press conference will take place at 3 p.m. outside Fogarty's campaign headquarters, 239 Atwells Ave., Providence.
